This summer I attended my very first Oshkosh. For those who don’t know Oshkosh is most likely the United States’ largest air show. It takes place over one week in late July in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It is a very popular event among pilots and the majority of people in attendance fly themselves straight in directly to the airport and then presume to camp at the airstrip alongside hundreds of other attendees. This airshow had more planes in one spot than I have ever seen before. Among these impressive aircraft, the one that stood out to me the most was the Toby Electric Air Taxi. This aircraft is one of the first in this upcoming technology that allows these electric planes to perform vertical takeoffs and landings with a small amount of room. This particular company is appearing to be more advanced than others as they have a six year deal with the United Arab Emirates to launch their air taxi service in the city of Dubai starting in 2026. I think this is a huge leap for the air taxi industry and I hope to see a lot of success and advancements in Joby and other companies trying to thrive in this industry!
